19th September 1953: Completed Standard Eight cars are given a final inspection at the Standard Motor Company works, Coventry. This new 8 hp model is a step towards producing a real 'people's car'; the cheapest four-door saloon in the country, it costs just ?481 (with tax) and does 50 miles to the gallon.
