Description
While skiers and snowboarders may have been fast asleep in their nice warm beds, a beautiful celestial light appeared above. In this composite image, the Milky Way appears above one of the highest ski areas in North America - Arapahoe Basin, west of Denver, Colorado. The lights lights you see on the mountain come from snowcats running around grooming the runs for skiers and snowboarders. Having skied at A-Basin many, many times in my younger days, I will admit that this mountain holds a special place in my heart. In recent years however, I find myself attending art festivals and galleries where people ask if I have anything from ________. And since many of them are skiers (especially in the Summit County area), I get asked about the ski areas. So being a night photographer, I found this to be a natural fit. In fact, I tried it a while ago and this is my effort to improve - with new skills, techniques, and gear. So onn this spontaneous early morning drive up the pass, I decided that a few more cool images from Summit County would do well at the Dillon Art Festival. I got approved to attend as an exhibitor so I thought I'd make sure to be ready with a few more nightscapes from the area. Sure enough, this image was a definite hit!
