Description
SMOOTH MUSCLE FIBERS (or CELLS) in a blood vessel wall, 250X, from a human umbilical cord. This image clearly shows individual smooth muscle fibers or cells. These cells have tapering ends, a flattened, centrally located nucleus, and no striations. These cells can contract in a coordinated manner producing vasocontriction and vasodilitation in blood vessels.
