Description
Hamburg Town Hall, Germany - The courtyard is decorated with a Hygieia fountain.
In Greek as well as Roman mythology, Hygieia (the daughter of the god of medicine, Asclepius, and Epione) was the goddess / personification of health, cleanliness and hygiene. It was built in remembrance of the cholera epidemic in 1892, the former technical purpose was air cooling in the city hall, so she represents health and hygiene as well as its surrounding figures represents the power and pureness of the water.
