Description
Antique illustration of "Archers frieze" or “the Immortals frieze from Susa (now Shush), Iran. Susa was an ancient city of the Elamite, First Persian Empire, Seleucid, and Parthian empires of Iran. The frieze comes from the area of the site called Apadana and dates back to the Persian Achaemenid empire era (6th century BC) and it was likely part of the decoration of Darius I the Great's palace. Now it's at the Louvre Museum in Paris. This decorative frieze (made of polychrome glazed brick), called the "archers frieze", shows an army (likely of royal guards of Darius I , called “the Immortals”), with two symmetrical lines of marching soldiers carrying spears, bows and quivers.
