Description
London, England - November 9, 2008: A British Legion 'Poppy Appeal' remembrance poppy wreath standing on a stone war memorial a few days before Armistice Day (Poppy Day). The first official British Legion Poppy Day in Britain was held on 11th November 1921 and is now an annual event. The poppies and wreaths are made by disabled or ex- servicemen throughout the year. The poppy was chosen because it was the only plant to grow in the aftermath of the terrible devastation of the First World War battlefields.
