Description
HELGOLAND, GERMANY - AUGUST 04: Atlantic grey seals (Halichoerus grypus - in German: Kegelrobben) bask in hot weather on a sunny day on the south beach of Duene Island on August 4, 2013 near Helgoland, Germany. Duene Island was once an extension of neighboring Heligoland Island until a storm in 1721 severed the connection. Heligoland Island, in German called Helgoland, lies in the North Sea and until World War II was a popular tourist destination. During the war it became strategically vital and all overground structures were obliterated by massive Allied bombing. Today the island has a population of about 1,200 and is again a popular tourist destination known for its abundant wildlife. (Photo by Sean Gallup/Getty Images)
