Description
View of the largest of Mojanda lakes, high up in the Andes above Otavalo, Ecuador. Panoramic stitch of 4 images. The elevation is about 3800-4000m. (13,000ft). The "trail" to the top of this mountain is a 45° semi vertical scramble, uphill it's bad enough because of the altitude, downhill means sliding down on your ass most of the way through (thankfully) a cushion of those tall grasses. When walking along the lakeshore trail (the flat part), a fall or two is guaranteed, some parts are submerged by rising lake waters, the rest is a tangle of roots, mud and bushes and it started to rain on the way down. I had to throw away my shirt and pants at the end of the day. The shirt was old and had a wine stain on it already, but better weather would have made it worth losing the pants as well.
