Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Commission Junction?
Founded in 1998, Commission Junction is a ValueClick company based in Santa Barbara, California, with offices around the world. Since our inception, we have taken great pride in being customer service fanatics while establishing ourselves as a global leader in the online advertising channel of affiliate marketing.
What is an affiliate?
An affiliate (or publisher) is a person or company that sends visitors to a merchant's website in exchange for commissions. An affiliate teams up with a merchant, or group of merchants, through an affiliate marketing program to help them promote their products or services.
Does it cost anything to be an affiliate?
No. An affiliate account with Commission Junction is absolutely free. There are no set up costs and no maintenance fees. However, to be approved, you will need an active website or other means of marketing online.
How often do affiliates get paid commissions?
Commission Junction combines all earned commissions from all merchants for each affiliate. Commission Junction then issues checks for the previous month's events on the 20th of the month for affiliates whose account balances exceed US$100. Until an affiliate's account balance reaches US$100, the balance rolls over into the following month.
How do affiliates get paid commissions?
Affiliates receive payment by check, PayPal and/or direct deposit.
What happens if somebody licenses content that isn’t mine? Will I still earn the extra commission?
Yes, the affiliate marketing program will pay commission on the full order regardless of the contributor or collection.
Will the affiliate marketing commission affect my royalties?
No. This is an additional source of revenue for our artists.
Why do I have to enter a tax identification number or social security number?
If Commission Junction pays you more than $600 in non-employee compensation, they have to report it to the Internal Revenue Service. You will need to provide your tax identification or social security number if you are a United States citizen. If you operate your business outside of the United States, you do not need to provide this.
What is non-employee compensation?
If the following four conditions are met, you must report a payment as non-employee compensation:
- You made the payment to someone who is not your employee;
- You made the payment for services in the course of your trade or business (including government agencies and nonprofit organizations);
- You made the payment to an individual, partnership, estate, or, in some cases, a corporation; and
- You made payments to the payee of at least $600 during the year.
Can I terminate the affiliate marketing program anytime?
Yes. Just remove the Affiliate URL from your content and replace with a regular link.
What are the terms and conditions?
There is a three-way relationship: you and Commission Junction, you and Getty Images, and Commission Junction and Getty Images. You will find Referral Program terms and conditions while moving through the Commission Junction sign up process.
